10/20/24 Meeting minutes

Potsdam Middle School

Members Present: Edie Demarse, Marsha Evans, Ashley Todd, Paul Jones, Larry Kelley, Sarah Klock, Roxanne Leclerc, Tracie Lucas, John Maskell, Janice Marlow, Kate Porter, Adrienne Smith, Laurinda Stockwell, Scott Wilhelm, Jamie Carey, Sam Sochia, Kyle Fennell, Amber Aldridge

Meeting called to order @ 1106 by Roxanne

Motion to accept the meeting minutes from our 9/22 meeting= Scott with a second motion from Edie.

A. President’s Report: 

  • Issues since our most recent meeting:
    • Rob @ Canton- he has received 3 red cards recently due to rude remarks.  He has also been screaming at his players. 
  • Positions open: 
  1. President/ Chairperson- running: Kyle and Scott
  2. Sec/ Treas- Sarah 
  3. One Director (Larry)- Larry
  4. Assignor- Marsha and Amber
  • Meeting dates for 2025 season: 

Location is TBD- Stay tuned as time gets closer.

  1. Initial meeting: Monday 8/4/25 @ 5:00 (heads up Sarah will not be available- Laurinda will take notes).
  2. Probationary meetings (1-2 meetings will be held between initial season meeting and rules interp meeting).  Dates will be determined during the initial meeting of the season. Reminder ALL probationary officials are required to attend ALL probationary meetings. 
  3. Rules interpretation: Monday 8/18/24 @ 5:00
  4. Mid season: Sunday 9/21/25 @ 3:00 
  5. End of Season meeting: Sunday 10/19/24 @ 3:00

B. Interpreter Report/ Concerns: 

  • A ball that goes over the center beam/ curtain is automatically OUT as it at some point goes out of view. 
  • Neoprene sleeves: Can be different colors however, T-shirts have to be the same color if more than 1 player is wearing them. 
  • Pimple Patch= Legal to wear during play- however, they look like a sticker. 
  • Glitter= Illegal on hair or body 
  • Coaches meeting: make coaches responsible for their players.  It would be nice if coaches managed jewelry however, it is difficult.  If we don’t manage it ourselves and there is an issue with jewelry we are still liable. 

C. Secretary/ Treasurer report (Sarah): 

  • Due/ Assessment fees- Money is due to me by the end of the meeting.  Dues are $84 plus game fees- Varsity- $2, JV/ Modified- $1. 
  • Monies were received from everyone except John and Ashley however, they will be sending money via venmo. 
  • Kathy was not present to audit the checkbook therefore, the checkbook was audited and balanced for this season by Adrienne. 
  • Service Awards: CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for all of your years of service.
    • Paul- 15 years 
    • Scott- 5 years
    • Next year we have the following: Janice (30 years), Roxanne (30 years), Marsha (25 years), Amber (5 years). 

D. Assignor Reports (Marsha):

  • Extended play- we should be aware of an extended play ahead of time.  This would be helpful for other coaches and us officials.  It allows us to be mentally prepared.  Some coaches miss out on the opportunity because they are not aware and don’t bring their whole team.
    • Also, we feel that no other matches should follow extended play matches.
    • Trimatches: We wish we could do away with them.  Especially when varsity is last, it does mentally and physically drain officials for varsity matches.
      • Tough with officials 
      • Times are getting earlier and earlier making it difficult for officials who do work to get out of class. 
      • At this time only OFA has Trimatches. 
  • Playoff vouchers- not on the website yet but will be there- keep looking.
    • Line officials will be used during all regionals and finals. 
    • All other games will be utilizing 2 officials.
    • Update your availability so Marsha can schedule the officials. Check Refview frequently for any playoff game assignments. 

E. Probationary official Review (Scott/ Laurinda): Minimal 2 year probationary period

  • Sam Sochia (2nd year official)- Due to an accidental missed meeting on 9/22/24, He will be held as probationary during the 2025 season.
  • Ashley Chevier (1st year official)–> Moved to 2nd year probationary
  • Jamie Carey (1st year official)–> Moved to 2nd year probationary

F. Vice- President Report/ Awards Committee (Laurina/ Tracie)

G. Election Committee (Adrienne/ Larry): WINNERS…. Congratulations everyone and thank you for your time.

No other questions/ concerns… motion to adjourn the meeting made by Kyle and second by Roxanne. Meeting adjourned at approx 1237.
